We’ve been quiet over the holiday break, but we started the year off with a bang! There’s a lot going on right now. The first big thing is that we’re changing direction a bit. So far, we’ve managed to build a pretty good jumping and platforming game with some puzzle mechanics. We’ve also built several experiments where we tried out various types of puzzles that involve dancing to the rhythm. Some of those experiments have been fun (I’ve attached a screenshot of an early prototype of some “teleport crystals”), and some of them would need a lot more work to get to playable. So, here are the big changes:
- We’re going to switch genres to a rhythm-focused puzzle platformer. It will still involve exploring the world and gaining abilities like a Metroidvania.
- That means it won’t include any combat. It may still have some NPCs, but you won’t be fighting them.
- We are going to keep the game to three areas–a cave, a forest, and the sky.
- We are going to release it this year.
So that’s our New Year’s Resolution–you’ll be able to play Caesura by the end of 2026! We plan to release a demo as soon as the cave area is fully playable. Of course this also means that we need to start producing content more quickly and getting the word out about the game. You’ll be hearing more about that next week
