Hey folks. My house has been crazy this week since we just had a new baby, but I still found an hour or two to work on Caesura. It’s tough to keep a project going when everyone has day jobs, so we’ve been setting aside fixed time each week to make some progress. It’s been really helpful and progress has picked up quite a bit. As Dean mentioned, we spent some time getting areas to “connect” to each other when you walk between them. Since we have a basic engine going, it’s time to start building out the world. Our second area is currently just a roughed-out jumping puzzle. We can spot a lot of problems before we put in the huge effort of adding in lots of decorations and complicated logic. For instance, just by roughing this area out, it made it clear that we need to make our camera follow the player a little more aggressively–it’s a little too hard to see where you need to jump next if the player is too close to the screen’s edge! The key idea is to make something just good enough to play and polish that till it’s fun, then worry about making it look nice afterward.
