Happy Fall, ya’ll! (I just really love fall). It’s my turn this week, I’ve been working on a lot of things, but mostly throwing myself at the puzzle of cave music. I’ve been spending a lot of my time developing synthesizer patches that mix well with real/realistic instruments. I’ve also been trying to leave space in my music, since the enemies and the player are supposed to fill that in during gameplay! As the player enters the cave, they are supposed to feel lonely and a bit defeated. This really provides an interesting challenge on my part. When I think “rhythm game” I hear energetic, synth-y dance music cranked up to 100, but our game is trying something different! I don’t think I’ve solved this problem yet, but I think I’m getting closer to figuring this out. Here’s a bit of sad, lonely cave music. The clarinet patch that comes halfway through is definitely being replaced, I’m not the best clarinet player, but even I can do better than that.
