Update scheduling

When we released our first playtest in early June, we were really excited. “Hurray!” we said, “let’s keep updating people with new versions like, every month or something!” A lot of people downloaded (200) and played (20+?) the game. Quite a few of you made it all the way through the 10-15 minutes we’ve built so far. It was awesome and we love you.

Here’s the thing, though: we’re not full time game devs. We’re “evenings and weekends” game devs. We also have a whole lot of kids between us. We’re making steady progress, but we’re pretty slow. July has come and nearly gone, and while there’s some new gameplay, there’s not quite enough to ask for more feedback yet. We also, uh, broke a bunch of important stuff 😊 and we’re not going to release again until that’s cleaned up again.

Based on your feedback, we added some extra tutorial to make it clear that vines can be climbed. We made it clearer that this is a rhythm game, and that you need to turn up your sound. We’ve also smoothed out the learning curve for some difficult areas.

As far as new stuff goes, we started prototyping the first character you meet (janky programmer art screenshot attached). We’ve changed the item ordering a little bit; the recorder will now be your first instrument, and the castanets the second. We’re also working on some new types of puzzles. This is all stuff we want to share, but our initial goal of “every month or something” quickly seemed like a bad idea.

We do want you to get a new version of Caesura soon, but we’re going to wait until that new version is a better experience than the old one. We’re not sure when that will be. September, probably?

By the way, every comment we’ve ever gotten on this blog has been spam. Since the signal to noise ratio was, uh, infinite, we just turned them off. We really do want to hear from you, but the best way to do it is to connect to Discord. If you’d like to do that, there’s an icon at the top of our page that will give you an invitation. If you want to come and chat about Caesura (or, I dunno, just play some games with us), please drop by!
